Kirjan Vuosi T-shirt design

T-shirt design for a "Book's Year" (Kirjan Vuosi 2015) campaign event aimed for kids. Part of an assingment for Turku University of Applied Sciences entrance exams: to sketch a T-shirt design and present an idea for an event to encourage reading in the audience group of one's choosing. With pre-school aged kids in mind I pitched an idea for a story book reading event and designed this shirt, which incorporates in it the actual official logo of the campaign year (lucky break there really; I could have had hard time coming up with a decent way of representing a book in circular shape in matching fashion with rest of the design *haha*).

Below are the entries for some of the assignments in the entrance exams for the Turku AMK "Bachelor of Culture and Arts" (medianomi) program, that got through to the second round in spring 2015. The assingnments were: 1 - as described above, 2 - to tell a story of a family's morning from the POV of dog, and 3 - to write down thoughts on the role and importance of the social media in marketing. One more of the assignments - campaign ideas for the international "Towel Day" - was previously presented here.

Tyhjä Taulu handbill

Layout and title design for posters, flyers and a handbill for Erika Malkki's play "Tabula Rasa" - a solo performance about an alcoholic artist's struggles in love and life, inspired by notes from painter Pertti Malkki's diaries.

The title type was hand picked letter by letter from the pages of Pertti Malkki's diaries. It wasn't until the last minute, that I decided to partially blur the type to reflect upon the theme of the play, instead of going the crisp vector path initially intended.

The mountain range element displayed on the poster is a detail from one of the late artist's paintings, behind their own paint mixing table and easel.

Petit Alice vol. 2

Layout and graphics for Petit Alice vol. 2, 2009 fanzine of Japanese street fashions stemming from the advent of popularity in the gothic & lolita culture (hence the rather 'gothic' title - not my design).

What to do with a whole spread reserved for events and only few to report - whole spread illustration. I'm oddly fond of the treatment of the header here still, despite it's age.

Towel Day campaign

Visual aids and planning for campaign for spreading the awareness of "Towel Day" held in celebration of Douglas Adams, the writer of the Hitchhikers Guide to Galaxy, encouraging audience to take part in the day's events and to like it on social media. Turku AMK (University of Applied Sciences) entrance exam assignment, 2015.

The idea here was to have posters featuring quotes from the book with accompanying illustrations/photomanipulations of animals and/or objects wearing towels (planted along with some actual street side objects - lamps, bins, benches etc. - dressed in towels). The bit about building highways struck me as a perfectly relatable quote to place near ever present street repair work sites around town. Also appropriate for bus adverts seemed the quote about transport - something commuters might have found amusingly self-ironic on public transportation.
