Original web campaign designs

Banners for "viking sauna". I used images from the client's homepage to create "a striking look with flames" for the campaign, as requested.

Campaign designs

Some examples of the campaigns with little or no material provided, where I had free hands to design the look for the banners.

The animations on the samples are to illustrate the construction of the banners.

Banners for a book release. The only provided material were the jacket image and the publisher's logo.

Campaign to advertise the idyllic art nouveau styled Park Hotel in Turku. The location photos and the logo were from the client's homepage.

Banner campaign - Dueling hockey players

Top-most: the first proposed banner with the fighting hockey-players. Right: the final used image.

Banner campaign - Ovesta

The banners created to improve the campaign's visual style.

Creating spaces

The basic set of banners I've been working with recently consists of three vastly differently shaped templates all within each campaign, and in most normal cases this requires editing any materials to perfectly fit both horizontal and vertical formats, regardless of the materials' original orientation. While the results may seem obvious and simple, the photomanipulation work that goes behind them can involve some spatially aware thinking and trickery. This case was a prime example of this.

In this case I was requested to improve the banners visually, using the same set of images as in the original banners.

To fit the chosen images perfectly for the both wide horizontal banner and the tall vertical one, I ended up cutting and pasting bits from different photos, and creating whole new 'spaces' as it were. The image of the appartment space spanning from the front door throught the whole apartment didn't actually excist, but was created for this banner alone from bits of different photos to appear as if one. The image in tall banner had to be extented up, and the ceiling created from a small patches of ceiling visible in the collection of images provided.

Welcome summer - photo edit

Composite image made in 2013 for Salon Seudun Sanomat summer subscription offer, combining photos of the foreground rocks, background view, group of cows, sunny sky and a flower field (got little sloppy with the last mentioned, as they were to be mostly covered with the subscription form anyway). Rediscovering this made me realize the image could well have been for a dairy advert of some sort.

Rautia winter scenery

Used to regularly make ads for the hardware store Rautia for Salon Seudun Sanomat newspaper, from small front page pieces to more cumbersome whole spread 'collages'. However, this is the only one that stuck with me (no doubt because it required some more creativity than usual) and which I personally most care for: made this wintery mood image for their Christmas greeting by 'painting' some snow and ice on a summery stock photo from Kotitalo (one of their affiliate ready-made house manufacturers). It must have been running in their front page Christmas ad annually for at least 7 years now, iirc, maybe more. Most recently few days ago, this very Christmas.

Kunnallislehti - uudistus

Attachment leaflet for the newspaper Kunnallislehti, marketing the paper's renewed look.

Images used are edited composites of the papers I photographed on my desk added together with "summer fresh salad displays" courtesy of the Salon Seudun Sanomat photo archive and the weekly "Keskiviikko Keittiö" column especially.

Otso Salkkari - "Kyl Mäki Lukisin"

Salon Seudun Sanomat ads for rap artist Cheek's Salo gig to be reflected on the walls of Salo hall. Featuring Otso Salkkari mascot costume with photo edited bling and usages of the SSS logo's "readers" elements on the background pattern and the coat of arms. Loving the happy accident of the crown's ermine spots forming such fitting pair of eye brows for Otso. Gentleman Otso was an additional suggestion for the ad's run on papers.
